Women In STEM UDEM
Women in STEM UDEM is a student-led initiative aimed at promoting female participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This project focused on creating a digital platform to share achievements, encourage academic community-building, and amplify the presence of women in STEM across the university and beyond.
The Opportunity
Before this project, the group’s only online presence was through Instagram, which limited its reach and ability to communicate in-depth updates, events, and resources. The opportunity was to create a centralized platform that could serve as an academic hub—hosting stories, celebrating achievements, and promoting events in a structured, accessible way. The goal was to empower more women to join and actively participate in the movement.
The Research
We explored how female students and STEM enthusiasts consume content related to their fields. We found that blogs and short-form updates with clear categorization were the most effective way to keep the audience informed. Based on that insight, we developed a full blog platform divided by STEM categories—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and General STEM—allowing readers to stay updated, engage in discussion through comments, and feel part of a growing academic community.
The Outcome
Although the platform was not used to its full long-term potential, the blog posts that were published helped boost visibility and engagement within the UDEM community. It established a digital space where women in STEM could access relevant content, share perspectives, and promote academic events with greater impact than traditional social media alone.
